Welcome to the Virtual United States Navy (VUSN) and your opportunity to learn and enjoy virtual naval aviation at it’s finest. The VUSN was established in December 1999 with the goal of affording opportunities for fellow simmers that enjoy naval aviation.  Membership is open to mature individuals (at least 21 years of age) of any nationality and our membership currently covers many time zones.  Our guiding philosophy is "The VUSN is your organization" with the goal of having fun and creating friendships while learning about real-world naval aviation procedures.  VUSN is much like a virtual airline (VA) but with a much more extensive and active leadership structure as would be expected in a military environment.  While VA pilots usually fly fixed routes, our naval aviators are tasked with completing a variety of missions including search and rescue, strike, anti-submarine warfare, battle damage assessments and carrier operations.  You will likely experience formation flights with other Fleet pilots as you conduct there various missions as a team.

The VUSN conducts its operations in two environments: 1) flying training and non-tactical missions as a member of the Special Operations Administration (VSOA) of the Virtual Air Traffic Simulation Network (VATSIM); and 2) flying tactical mission on our own private FSX/FSD servers. The VUSN’s goal is to emulate the USN as close as reasonably possible to the limits of available information from the US Government, military sources, and Microsoft™ Flight Simulator X with Acceleration (FSX-A) ONLY.  In both environments, we require the use of FSInn connect to VATSIM and our own FSD server.

Our Naval Aviators begin their experience just like a real naval aviator, in Primary Pilot Training.  This consists of several familiarization flights just to get you comfortable with naval aviation procedures, including carrier operations.  You will then transition into your chosen Fleet airframe and go through the Fleet Readiness Training Program (FRTP).  These several training flights will be more specific as to the tasking you can expect once you get to the Fleet.  Most Nuggets are able to complete these training programs very quickly.  Once training is complete, you will receive orders to report to a Fleet squadron, where you will experience regular missions utilizing your newly learned skills.  Participation with other squadrons within the Carrier Air Wing provides experience in a larger group and with different aircraft types working as a team.  Finally, organization wide exercises prepare members for a carrier deployment.  Deployments typically last for several months and take participants to every part of the globe.  Throughout these steps you will also experience CATCC and ATC support from VUSN controllers at the various military bases and at the carrier.  Leadership and planning of training and exercises is the responsibility of a range of VUSN positions from the squadron Operations Officer up to the Chief of Naval Air Forces Command.  This developmental process allows members to learn basic principles of strategic and tactical preparation while allowing the use of their imagination.  VUSN is designed for an active participant and requires a minimum of 2 hours per month on VATSIM or private multiplayer server.  Given the amount of missions available at any given time, you can certainly fly much more than two hours.

If you're serious about flight simulation, want to experience virtual naval aviation at its finest, and you are willing to be a dedicated part of our team, then click on the Complete your Enlistment Process on the left side of this screen to complete your enlistment application.  We look forward to your participation and new friendship.
