“The Final Punch”

This morning the last Attack squadron in the VUSN, Attack Squadron 75 was removed from active duty pending the squadron’s disestablishment.  VA-75’s remaining airframes are to be delivered to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, where they will be stored pending a return to action.   The A-6 first entered service with the United States Navy in 1963, and served with distinction for 34 years.  The A-6 mirrored that distinction while in service with the VUSN, the Intruder, and VA-75 will be missed.   The vertical stabilizer of a VA-75 A-6 is on permanent display in hanger 122, NAS Oceana.

The door remains open for the A-6 within the halls of the VUSN however, should the need arise the airframes will be maintained until such time as pilots return to fly the round nose attack jet.
